Yeah, but can any of them write a big check?

This about John “No Balls” Edwards from today’s Openers:

Edwards wins backing in Ohio

Posted by Mark Naymik June 28, 2007 15:57PM

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards picked up a handful of endorsements from powerful Northeast Ohio leaders today.

Too bad they won’t likely help in the party’s primary race in which Edwards is trailing Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Edwards, who visited Cleveland earlier this month, won the backing of Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason, Parma Mayor Dean DePiero, Parma Municipal Clerk of Court Marty Vittardi, Parma Heights Mayor Martin Zanotti and State Rep. Tim DeGeeter. They are members of D-2000, a network of county Democrats headed by Mason.

“There are many good candidates, but we believe Edwards has the best message and the ability to win the general election,” DePiero said. “It is about November of 2008.”

But it might be hard to help Edwards because Ohio’s March 4 primary falls after nearly half the states hold their contests.

DePiero and the others hold out hope that Ohio might be in play in March.

“If Edwards gets hot in a few states, Ohio could be important,” he said.

The answer to my original question is NO.  Good luck being a distant third (it’s like fourth, only better).
