I got home from work late today so my exposure to the guy I love to villify Chris Matthews and his msNBC program Hardball came during its later run in the 7 pm hour.  What I was treated to was nothing less than the second act of an obvious calculated sympathy grab on the part of the John Edwards campaign and their MSM sycophants.  I currently do not have the video of this, but I’m sure as soon as the Edwards campaign puts it up to raise money or some sympathetic lefty at msNBC leaks it to the Huffington Post, I’ll get it.

Following those two installments, we pick up the story with a Hardball appearance from Mr. “No Balls” (aka John Edwards) who trotted out his wife last night to stick up for him (and get some much needed attention for his anemic campaign) a few years late with the schoolyard bully (Ann Coulter).  I have a strong aversion to people who trade on telling lies to further themselves and John Edwards demonstrated tonight for anyone not paying attention to his 5 year campaign for the White House that he is an unabashed phoney.

Prior to “No Balls” taking to the screen, Hardball’s correspondent David Shuster provided background on the brouhaha and the coverage that has engulfed the incident in the last 24 hours.  The telling takeaway was video of an interview with a Hardball producer indicating that when the Edwards campaign learned “a few days ago”  that Coulter would be making an appearance, they contacted the show to see if it would be okay for Mrs. Edwards (the one with the balls in the family) to call into the program. 

Fast forward to “No Balls’” interview with Matthews and the host asking the candidate whether or not she with the balls had discussed with him (he with “no balls”) her intent to contact the program and confront Coulter. 

“No Balls” response (I’m paraphrasing here because the transcripts are not yet available), “ahh no Chris, I think it was just something that Elizabeth decided to do when she heard some of Ann’s comments and then she saw her on the show…”

C’mon.  Be serious.  The campaign knew about it.  They called days in advance.

Two things:

1. If the candidate didn’t know his wife was going to do this, then he certainly isn’t in charge of his campaign or anything else (not exactly what America wants in its leader), and
2. John Edwards is full of shit.

Thus ends my rant.
