Is Newt going to make an announcement?

Just got an email a little while ago from Newt.org indicating that the former Speaker will be a guest on Meet the Press this Sunday. He’s scheduled to debate Senator (and Democratic presidential hopeful) Chris Dodd about Iraq (you may have seen a Dodd ad airing recently on cable news channels touting his get out of Iraq stance). Should be a lively debate.

But I’m wondering if Newt will use the opportunity to hint at his future plans?

Frankly, I think Newt is great on ideas, but lousy at managing them. I don’t think a White House run is a good match for him, but I think he could be an unbelievable resource to many of the candidates as an adviser on domestic issues like health care and immigration. I’d much rather see him continue as the vocal sage for conservative and practical solutions. As for his writing…

I’ll have to take a look at his new book, Pearl Harbor, and see if he’s improved.
