Where was Harold Ford?

Last week as the Imus controversy was swirling and the former frequent guests of the show were (for the most part) bailing on the I-Man, there was one guest that Imus through inference was wondering out loud where he was.

As was typical on the show, Imus would play an excerpt from a song he was currently touting - in this case Lucinda Williams ethereal “Are You Alright?” - and then wonder aloud… “gee Harold Ford, I hope you’re OK.” Not necessarily calling out the congressman to weigh in on this particular issue, but just wondering where he was.

For those of you who did not frequently listen to the show, Imus was a huge proponent of Ford (who is black) during his time in the House and his run for the Senate (which he lost to Republican Bob Corker). As the campaign grew heated, Imus went out of his way to skewer the Corker campaign for the use of an overtly racist ad making baseless accusations against Ford. Imus provided numerous free air opportunities to Ford in hopes of bolstering the Democrat’s campaign.

So reflexively during the roll-out of last week’s scandal, Imus could have used a little support. Where was Harold Ford? Apparently preparing his remarks for the REAvREND Al Sharpton’s National Action Network conference taking place this week where Ford will be part of a panel discussion on improving race relations.

Nice…

I guess in Congressman Ford’s world, improved race relations has nothing to do with loyalty.
