Bush so-so funny, Rove not a dancer

… but maybe if they drank?

Last night’s Radio and Television Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington DC featured the president’s obligatory humorous remarks and the presentation by Bob Woodruff to Steve Senntani of the David Bloom award. The evening’s big trademark comedy act was Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood from the ABC show “Who’s Line is it Anyway” performing an improv rap act with Karl Rove as MC Rove. Rove’s rap/dance routine left me wanting (less not more) and the overall show was less than what it has been in previous years. Although Rove did reveal that one of his favorite hobbies is to “rip the tops off of small animals” (whatever the hell that means).

I watched last night’s festivities via CSPAN - mostly because I wanted to see the comedy. Unfortunately the best jokes of the night came from President Bush and the humor from the occasional panning of the audience watching folks from the opposite party like Nana Pelosi, UpChuck Schumer, and Howeird Dean (sorry, but I thought a little levity was in order) wearing deathmasks trying to decide whether or not it was politically correct for them to laugh.

It’s too bad the partisanship is so high in DC that these folks who are supposed to have our nation’s interests at heart can’t can’t drop their red/blue forcefields for the night and laugh at one another.
