Why do politicians abhor technology

… and those of us watching them love it?

In the last few years more and more state elections officials from around the country have introduced mandatory electronic filing of financial records by political candidates. The process allows for immediate public access to the records and helps to discourage monetary shenanigans by the less scrupulous.

Why hasn’t the same practice been adopted by the U.S. Senate? Probably because it would add transparency to the archaic and often difficult to navigate federal government, and the last thing a senator would want is that - right?

Today’s CQ tells the story of the most current attempt at moving the Senate into the modern era. It’s well worth the read.
