How many frequent flyer miles is that

$1 billion?

Cleveland Hopkins Airport is a BILLION in debt according to Port Control Director Ricky D. Smith (I’m not sure what the D’s for but since he insists on it… maybe I should call myself Wendell W. Robinson, nah…) at a meeting he had today with the Plain Dealer’s editorial board.

I guess years of using the airport as a dumping ground for political hacks has finally come to pass.

Money (well maybe that’s not necessarily the best word to use) quote:

“It’s crucial that the airport runs well, has strong customer service programs and that it’s aesthetically pleasing,'’ he said. “All I’ve done is put paint on the walls. I haven’t done anything yet.”

For a BILLION bucks I think I should be able to have Ricky D chauffeur me to CLE, check my bags, whisk me through security and fluff my pillow once on board.

Whoever said the airport business was all about peanuts? Maybe the government’s been fooling us all of these years and is actually hiding some top secret weapons program at Hopkins - or maybe they’ve just gotten around to accounting for all of the money that was spent in graft when Mike White was in office.
