How did you not know?… and other musings on Newt Gingrich
Trawling through the blogosphere today and I’m shocked by the number of liberals who can’t help but celebrate Newt Gingrich’s disclosure of infidelity in his last marriage as if it’s news.
Are you kidding me? How is it that you didn’t know this?

Newt’s mea culpa this week on christofacist radio is an obvious next step towards a potential White House run (and I’m sure he’s warming to the idea based on Giuliani’s recent poll numbers thinking that perhaps philandering isn’t a death sentence for politicians anymore), but I just don’t know how he makes it. He’s more hated on the left than Hillary is on the right. Perhaps it’s just the void of well-known conservatives in the Republican presidential stable that makes him think he has a chance.
I’ve always thought of Newt as more of an ideas man. I can see him fixing the border security problem or modernizing the health care system with the help of electronic records, but running the country, I’m not so sure. He would make a wise choice as a moderate presidential candidate’s vice president. A G&G ticket (Giuliani - Gingrich) probably wouldn’t fly (I can see the ads right now with the opposition claiming that G&G would turn the White House into a frat house), but something like an MG (McCain - Gingrich) would satisfy the establishment folks at the RNC as comfortably as tweed caps are associated with the automobiles the ticket could be named after.
I do hope he gets into this race. At least then we’ll have one candidate (regardless of party) who actually has ideas instead of platitudes to offer.

[…] The other day I received an email from a frequent reader of this page (here’s an excerpt): You mentioned in your piece about Newt’s potential run in 2008 that we should “mix in a book” as a way of broadening our knowledge base. I’m curious if you read books and if so, what? […]
