Is Jackson the 22nd councilman?

Apparently the Cleveland City Council thinks Mayor Frank Jackson is still the council president and have chosen to cede their authority over parks and recreation funding to his office.

The mayor will be following a “worse to first” approach in doling out

dollars.  Not necessarily a bad idea if you live in one (of the many) needier neighborhoods in the city, but as Ward 21 Councilman Mike Dolan noted, “on that analysis, I’ll always get the short end of the stick.”

Right you are Mike, so why were you one of 20 council members (Ward 11 Councilman Mike Polensek was the lone dissenter) who voted to approve the move?  Could it be that it’s hard for folks who are all members of the same party to disagree?  At this rate, we might as well follow a parliamentary system in Cleveland… council (about 3/4) basically chose Jackson to replace Jane Campbell as mayor last year.  What’s next, making Fannie Lewis the Queen?

[…] Challenge city council.  You’re the mayor, not the 22nd councilman.  Be a leader who leads, and let Marty Sweeney work on building consensus.  Leaders need political enemies with whom they must spar.  History has shown us that the worst organizations are those where no one disagrees.  You need more than Mike Polensek as a foe.  With the advent of next year’s charter review, demand a reduction of council.  […]
