There’s more to be being poor than just ranking number one

Associates all over the local blogosphere and MSM are hailing the news that Cleveland has fallen to number four on the list of America’s poorest cities – which is great until you consider that it’s likely that Cleveland’s population has now dropped below 400,000 and there’s no looking back as we race to 300,000 or less.

When people don’t have a choice about how they’re taxed (especially when they have so little to be taxed on), it’s no wonder that they’re leaving Cuyahoga County in busloads every day.

  1. When I read this exerpt yesterday I could not help but to laugh:

“Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson isn’t much concerned with how Cleveland may be ranked in the poverty survey results to be disclosed Tuesday.
‘Let me put this way. We have some questions about the methodology,’ he said, pointing out that Cleveland ranked 12th in poverty two years ago. ‘They have us going from 1-to-12-to-1. It’s really irrelevant to us. The fact remains there is poverty. We’re working on strategies both economically and educationally to address that.’”

This isn’t funny though. What is funny are Cleveland’s leaders…not hahaha funny, though.

Who is Frank Jackon kidding? Jackson, Cimperman and company don’t care about how being ranked one of the most impoverished cities in US? Yeah right.
Believe me…if we somehow got off the list they would be the first calling press conferences.

Lets see…30% of 410,000=123,000 live below the poverty line. Wow! Have you seen the poverty guidelines? That’s pretty sad. Now, what percentage of those in the other 70% are “working poor?” I don’t know that figure, but I am willing to bet that if you add it to the 30% about have off this city is poor.

Way to go guys! You just supported taking more money from one of the most impovershed cities. That’s something to be proud of.

    Way to go guys!

  2. mike, you have to remember that these are two of the guys who made it all this way

we’ve hired bad help, and now can’t seem to get rid of them

like Mango, Joe has done his little dance, and enchanted a good number of us

we need to break the spell…

  3. wendell, is it possible to begin to put together a thank-you list of people who have gotten us to the point where we are today?

this is where satire can begin

  4. get the poll books from the BOE for registered democrats and you’ll have about 70 pct of the names you need to send cards to. i have backed some dems in the past, and there are some that I continue to support, but it is impossible to not lay the blame squarely in the hands of that party. i guess some blame can be laid at the feet of the republicans for their ineptitude or complicity for that matter.
