No money left in the wallet
By chance this morning, I caught the early portion of Bob Frantz’s show on WTAM and heard his producer Dave Ramos (sitting in for Bob today) raving about the new Medical Mart err…CONvention Center err…GENERAL FUND SALES TAX INCREASE and how he couldn’t understand why people would be against it. The way he was waxing poet about this thing you’d think he was on this list, but he’s not.
I took it upon myself to call the studio line as a private citizen and voice my concerns. Dave was nice enough to put me on the air and I told him that my reasons for opposing this tax increase are two-fold: first of all I disagree with the way the commissioners knowingly circumvented the public trust and approved this tax increase, and more importantly the fact that (to borrow from Susan over at BlueOhioan who routinely uses the following for a completely different issue) ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. My wallet is already empty thanks to the oppressive tax authority in CuyCo and I just have nothing else to give them.
As a later caller so aptly pointed out “because the current sales tax rate is 7.5%, they’re already rounding it up - so you’re already paying it” - which is true, but… at what point do we just say ENOUGH?
Cleveland City Councilman Zack Reed who has been one of the leaders of the effort to force a public vote of the increase was on later to discuss the petition drive and www.PutItonTheBallot.com.
