McCain sticks to guns as crew abandons ship

In what could only be characterized as true political theatre, late this morning Arizona Senator John McCain took to the floor of the Senate to once again reiterate his support for President Bush’s failed policy in Iraq. At the same time word was being given out to the media that the McCain for President campaign’s manager and lead strategist are leaving the McCain organization.

Once considered the odds on favorite for the Republican nomination for president in 2008, Team McCain has struggled recently and was forced to lay-off staff after a disappointing second quarter of fundraising. Rumor has it that many of the McCain staffers have been actively courted by FRED Thompson to help mount a national campaign.

Don’t be surprised if we soon see McCain drop out and quickly throw his support to old friend FRED Thompson’s campaign. Though on the flip-side, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that the raiding of the S.S. McCain by FRED will create a bitter rivalry causing the Maverick McCain to fight on simply to thwart FRED.
