Another piece of the Democrats 2008 campaign strategy

If you’ve been wondering what’s happening within the political parties while the presidential candidates have already begun the active arm-wrestle for their respective group’s nomination, here’ a clue from CQ’s Political Money Line

Craig Varoga, former campaign manager of former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack’s presidential campaign, registered a new Section 527 entity this week called the Bluegrass Freedom Fund. Varoga had previously done opposition research and had worked as communications director for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. The stated purpose of the group is “to communicate with the public on issues that relate to the election of a candidate for state or local office, or the legislative process in a manner that does not expressly advocate the election or defeat of a particular candidate.” Varoga is listed as the director.

As the presidential candidates fall to the wayside look for their party-bred operatives to get soft landings at 527’s devoted to regional political activities of a national nature (hence the name ‘Bluegrass…’). It’s no mistake that Varoga has got roots with Harry Reid. These groups will devote their time to organizing voter networks and bashing Republicans in preparation for 2008.

Anybody who thinks that 527’s don’t coordinate with parties or candidates is smoking crack.
